Wild Alpine strawberries are famous for their excellent taste and aroma. Breeders crossed the plant with other forms and got an excellent remontant variety Ruyan. The culture immediately became popular among gardeners due to its ease of care, since the bushes do not form a mustache. Ruyan's strawberries are easily propagated by seeds, are unpretentious in care, are rarely affected by diseases.
Breeding history
A remontant culture was bred by Czech breeders. The variety was brought to the territory of the Russian Federation in the nineties. Ruyana's parents are wild forms of alpine strawberries. The breeders managed to preserve the pristine aroma of wild berries. By now, the remontant variety Ruyan has managed to spread on the territory of Ukraine and Belarus.
Description
Remontant strawberry bushes grow compact with dense foliage. Ruyana's crown forms a ball. The maximum height of the bush is 20 cm. The peculiarity of the remontant variety Ruyan is the high arrangement of peduncles, which is unusual for strawberries. Flowers on high legs protrude above the foliage level. Gardeners called this feature a plus. The berries always stay clean after rain or watering, as the foliage covers them from the bottom of the ground.
The fruits grow in a conical shape. Twisted berries are rare. The repairability of the variety already indicates that the fruits are large. The diameter of the berry reaches 1.5 cm. The fruit weighs about 7 g. The ripe berry becomes bright red. Small grains are located in deep depressions on the skin of the fruit. Inside the berry is pink. The pulp is not friable, juicy, saturated with a forest aroma. Due to its high density, the fruits of remontant Ruyana do not choke during harvesting, transportation and storage.
Young bushes of Ruyan's remontant strawberry begin to bear fruit from the second year after planting in the garden. The stage of rapid flowering falls in May. In June, the first wave of the crop is harvested. Ruyana bushes bloom continuously in warm regions until the third decade of November. In cold regions, flowering lasts until October. The big advantage of the remontant strawberry variety is its high yield. From 1 m2 the beds collect about 2.5 kg of fruit.
Advantages and disadvantages of the variety
An overview of the positive and negative qualities of Ruyan's remontant strawberries helps the gardener to get to know the variety better. For convenience, all parameters are included in the table.

Breeding methods for mustache remontant strawberries
The easiest way to propagate strawberries and strawberries is a mustache. Since the remontant variety Ruyan is deprived of such an opportunity, there are two ways left: by dividing the bush or by seeds.
By dividing the bush
If Ruyan's remontant strawberry is already growing in the yard, then it is easier to propagate it by dividing the bush. The procedure is performed in the spring before flowering or in the third decade of August. For a better survival rate of seedlings of the Ruyany variety, work is performed on a cloudy day. An adult plant is divided into 2-3 parts so that each specimen has a full-fledged root and at least 3 leaves.
The separated parts of remontant strawberries are planted to the same depth as the whole bush grew earlier. Seedlings are watered abundantly, shaded from the sun. When Ruyan's split strawberries take root, the shelter is removed.
Growing Ruyana from seeds
You can grow seedlings of Ruyan's remontant strawberries from seeds in any container. Drawers, flower pots, plastic cups will do.

Technique of obtaining and stratification of seeds
It is better to buy seeds of remontant strawberries in the store. If the Ruyan variety is already growing at home, then the grains can be collected from the berries yourself. Large, slightly overripe strawberries without visible damage are chosen in the garden. With a sharp knife on the berry, cut off the skin along with the grains. The prepared mass is spread out on glass or a flat plate and placed in the sun. After 4–5 days, the remnants of the pulp will dry completely. Only strawberry seeds will remain on the smooth surface. The grains are packed in sachets and stored in a cool place.
Before sowing, the seeds of Ruyan's remontant strawberry are stratified. The procedure involves cold hardening of the grains. Usually gardeners use two methods of stratification:
- In an ordinary plastic bag, spread a thin layer of cotton wool, moisten it with water from a spray bottle. Seeds of Ruyan's remontant strawberry are laid out on top of a wadded cloth. The package is tied, sent to the refrigerator for three days. Chilled seeds, after the completion of stratification, are immediately sown into warm soil.
- The fertile soil is calcined in the oven, cooled to room temperature and scattered on a tray. A layer of snow 1 cm thick is poured on top.Tweezers are needed to lay out small grains. Each seed of Ruyan's strawberry remontant is placed on the snow, observing an interval of 1 cm between them. The pallet is covered with a transparent film, placed in the refrigerator for three days. After this time, the crops are taken out and placed in a warm room. The film is removed only after the emergence of seedlings.
In nature, strawberries grow when the snow melts. Such conditions are more familiar to her, therefore, for stratification of seeds of the remontant variety Ruyan, it is better to choose the second method.
Sowing time
Sowing seeds of Ruyan's remontant strawberries begins from the first days of March to mid-April. In warm regions, the sowing time is shifted to the end of February. For seedlings, the Ruyans are sure to equip artificial lighting, since the daylight hours at this time of the year are still short.
Sowing in peat tablets
Sowing Ruyan grains into peat tablets can be combined with stratification:
- Peat washers are placed in a plastic container. Melted or settled water is poured, where a pinch of Fitosporin is preliminarily dissolved. After the peat washers swell, the planting nests are covered with soil.
- Top peat tablets are covered with a layer of snow 1-2 cm thick.
- Grains of Ruyan's remontant strawberries are laid on top of the snow.
- The container with crops is covered with a transparent film, sent to the refrigerator. The snow will gradually melt and the grains will themselves sink into the soil of the washer seat to the desired depth.
- The container is removed from the refrigerator after 2-3 days and placed in a warm room. The film is removed after germination.
- Part of the Ruyana grains will necessarily sprout past the peat tablet planting nest. Seedlings can be simply removed, or transplanted after three leaves appear. Each tablet should contain one fathom of Ruyan's remontant strawberry.
Before planting, seedlings of a remontant variety are hardened by taking them out into the street.
Sowing into soil
It is possible to sow Ruyana's seeds in the ground in a similar way, combining with stratification. If the grains have already passed cold hardening, then proceed immediately to sowing. The soil is collected from the garden or bought in the store. For crops use any container.
An interesting way growing seedlings of remontant strawberries Gardeners invented Ruyan in snails. A tape 1 m long and 10 cm wide is taken. Foamed polyethylene or a backing from a laminate is suitable. The material must be flexible. Wet soil 1 cm thick is laid out on top of the tape. Having stepped back from the side edge of 2.5 cm, Ruyan's strawberry seeds are laid out on the ground in 2 cm increments.
When the entire section of the tape is sown with grains, it is rolled up. The finished snail is placed in a deep plastic container with the crops up. Rolls are made exactly as many rolls are needed to completely fill the container. A little melt water is poured into the container, the snails are covered with foil and placed on the windowsill for germination.
Picking sprouts
The picking of saplings of Ruyan's strawberry remontant is performed after 3-4 full-fledged leaves have grown. The most acceptable and gentle method is called transshipment. With a small spatula or an ordinary spoon, a seedling of remontant strawberries is dug out together with a lump of soil. In this state, it is transferred to another seat, for example, a glass. After picking, the root collar of the seedling is not immediately covered with earth. Only after the rooting of the strawberries, the Ruyans pour the soil into the glass.
Why seeds don't germinate
The problem of poor germination of seeds of Ruyan's remontant strawberries is their poor preparation. Stratification is often ignored by inexperienced gardeners. Sometimes the problem lies in the poor quality of the grains themselves, collected with their own hands from the berries of remontant strawberries. If the first sowing has not sprouted, the procedure is repeated. However, it is advisable to take a new soil or disinfect it together with the planting containers, since, perhaps, the crops were destroyed by the fungus.
Landing
When it is warm outside, seedlings will grow, they begin to plant Ruyan's strawberries on the garden bed.
How to choose seedlings
Further yield depends on good seedlings of remontant strawberries. Seedlings are chosen with bright green, intact foliage. There should be at least three of them. Ruyana saplings are suitable only with a horn thickness of at least 7 mm. The length of the exposed roots should be at least 7 cm. If the seedling is grown in a peat pellet or cup, a good root system will be braided all over the coma.
Site selection and soil preparation
Beds for remontant strawberry varieties Ruyan is placed in a sunny place. Light shading by trees is allowed. The soil is dug up with compost at the rate of 1 bucket of organic matter per 1 m2... For looseness, you can add sand. If the acidity is increased on the site, ash or chalk is added during digging.
Landing scheme
For remontant strawberries of the Ruyan variety, planting in rows is preferable. A distance of 20 cm is maintained between each bush. The row spacing is about 35 cm. The strawberry variety Ruyan is musty, so that the plants can even be planted in one row near the beds with other garden crops.
Care
The procedure for caring for Ruyan's remontant strawberries is the same as for other varieties of strawberries.
Spring care
In the spring, after the snow melts, the beds are put in order. They remove old foliage, loosen the aisles. Watering is carried out with warm water, adding 1 g of copper sulfate or the same amount of potassium permanganate to 1 bucket. With the appearance of the ovary, strawberries are watered with a solution of boric acid at the rate of 5 g of powder per 10 liters of water.
Spring feeding is performed with mineral nitrogen-containing fertilizers. Strawberries respond well to feeding with liquid organic matter: solution of mullein 10 or bird droppings 1:20. During flowering, Ruyanu is fertilized with potassium-phosphorus preparations.
Watering and mulching
Repaired Ruyana easily tolerates drought, but the quality of the berries deteriorates. In dry summer, the strawberry plantation is watered daily, especially with the beginning of the ovary of berries. For watering, choose the evening time, preferably after sunset.
To retain moisture and get rid of weeds the ground around the bushes is mulched with sawdust, small straw. As mulch, gardeners practice covering the beds with black agrofibre, and cut a window for remontant strawberry bushes.
Top dressing
Ruyana strawberries are fed from the second year of life. The first feeding with ammonium nitrate (40 g per 10 l of water) is performed in early spring before the formation of flower buds. The second feeding with nitroammophos (1 tablespoon per 10 liters of water) is performed when buds are formed. The third feeding (2 tbsp. L. Nitroammofoski, 1 tbsp. L. Potassium sulfate per 10 l of water) is performed during the ovary of the fruit. Ruyan's strawberries respond well to feeding with biological products presented in the table.
Frost protection
During flowering, remontant strawberries are afraid of short-term frosts. Greenhouse shelters made of agrofibre help to protect plantings. You can also use regular transparencies.
Diseases and methods of struggle
The repairing alpine variety is resistant to diseases, but during an epidemic they can manifest themselves. The most dangerous diseases and methods of control are presented in the table.
Pests and ways to deal with them
Pests are not averse to feasting on the sweet berries of Ruyan's strawberries. How to deal with them is shown in the table.
Harvesting and storage
Strawberries are harvested regularly every 2-3 days. The best time is early in the morning after the dew has melted. The berries are plucked from the stalk and put into a small but wide container. The berries can be stored in the refrigerator for about a week. For long-term storage, the fruits are frozen.
Features of growing in pots
If desired, the remontant Ruyana can be grown in the room. Any flower pot 15 cm deep will do. The plant is taken care of the same as outdoors. In winter, it is only required to organize artificial lighting. During flowering, artificial pollination is done with a brush with soft bristles. With the onset of summer, pots with Ruyana are put on the balcony.
Outcome
Any gardener can grow a remontant variety of Ruyan. A garden bed with beautiful bushes will decorate any yard.
