Depending on the model, gas cannons are equipped with sensors that improve the comfort of using the device. For example, automation can respond to oxygen levels in an enclosed space or low fuel levels. Almost all gas cannons are equipped with a thermostat that automates the work process. The regulator controls the combustion, as a result of which the flame is automatically turned off or on when the set temperature inside the room is reached.
Gas units, like diesel heat guns, are divided according to the type of combustion into two types:
- If the burner flame is isolated inside the chamber, and the gases are exhausted through a hose, then this is an indirectly heated cannon. The efficiency of the device is less than that of an analogue with direct heating, but the gun can be used in residential premises.
- When the flame from the nozzle of the gun comes out together with the exhaust gases, then this unit belongs to the direct type of heating. The cost of such a model is less than that of an analogue with indirect heating, but the gun can only be used in rooms where people rarely stay.
Now let's take a look at how a gas cannon works. Gas is supplied to the burner via a high pressure hose through a reducer and an electric valve. Open or closed combustion takes place in a special chamber, behind which a fan is installed. Its blades are driven by a motor powered by electricity. The fan captures cold air, drives it around the burner, and then pushes it out of the cannon nozzle.

The scope of the thermal device is extensive. However, you need to immediately define clear boundaries of use. For example, an indirect heating gas heat gun can be used in any room, but a direct heating device is best used where the exhaust gases will not harm a person.

For the operation of the indirect heat gun, a corrugated hose is connected to the exhaust pipe. Through it, exhaust gases are discharged to the street. There are several types of corrugations that are used depending on the specifics of the room:
- The rolled hose is a spiral-wound pipe made of metal tape. The result is a durable and flexible corrugated sleeve.
- A stainless steel hose is most often used for a small gas gun installed permanently. This option is suitable for arranging a heating garage or home workshop.
- The multilayer hose is designed for converter installations. The sleeve provides free oxygen access, is characterized by increased strength and long service life.
- High pressure corrugated hose is often used for heating industrial premises. The sleeve is able to efficiently evacuate gases even when bent.
- The vacuum bellows are made of stainless steel. It features high shirring frequency.
Before buying a corrugation, you need to perform a couple of simple calculations and decide on the type of equipment. Let's see what needs to be done:
- determine what fuel the heat gun works from: gas or diesel;
- measure the desired sleeve length with a small margin;
- think over what the optimal hose diameter is needed;
- decide which sleeve is better to buy: black steel or stainless steel.
Choosing between a stainless steel or ferrous metal hose, it is better to give preference to the first option. Plain metal corrugation costs less, but its service life is the same. Such a hose will quickly rot in dampness, and also burn out faster when exposed to high temperatures.
The stainless steel sleeve is resistant to any weather conditions and aggressive environment. The hose can last a long time outdoors or indoors, where acid and other chemical vapors may be present. In case of overheating, the stainless steel does not lose its properties and remains strong.
Which is better to choose: gas or electric heat gun
For home use, gas or electric heat guns are most often purchased. Which one is better to choose, we will now consider:
- When choosing a heat gun, you must immediately pay attention to the size of the room that the device must heat. For small rooms, let them be residential or non-residential, a unit powered by electricity is ideal. The heat gun will not harm human or animal health, as there are no harmful emissions. The heating element of the device is a heating element, which is able to quickly heat up immediately after switching on. Electric guns are sold in different capacities, which allows you to make the best choice of device for home use.
- A gas cannon should be chosen for heating large rooms. Let's say you have a pigsty, poultry house, or greenhouses at home. A gas appliance is more powerful from an electric one and delivers heat faster immediately after switching on.
Also, the choice of a heat gun model may depend on the cost of the fuel. However, it must be borne in mind that even a gas appliance consumes a little electricity. A fan and automatic gun are powered from the mains.
Self-production of a gas heat gun

For the body of the gun, you need to take a steel pipe 1 m long and 180 mm in diameter. Inside it, a combustion chamber is fixed from a metal pipe of a shorter length with a diameter of 80 mm. On the fan side, the combustion chamber is welded with a plug, where the burner from the gas stove is attached. The gun is made of indirect heating, therefore, the second side of the combustion chamber is also welded with a plug. A hole with a diameter of 80 mm is cut from the top in the body. A similar window is cut in the combustion chamber, where a branch pipe is welded to remove gases. The electric fan is mounted at the inlet of the housing so that it blows through the combustion chamber well.
To ignite the burner, you need to put a piezoelectric element, and the fan can be started up through a switch. The stand is welded tightly to the body or made removable on a bolted connection.

It must be remembered that gas equipment poses a great danger to humans if used improperly. A homemade cannon does not have effective protection like factory devices. If you desperately need a gas heater, do not economize by making your own design. Better buy a gas cannon at the store.
