Among the new achievements of Russian breeders, it is worth mentioning the Boni MM tomato variety. The plant organically combines those advantages due to which gardeners include it in the list of mandatory varieties for planting on their plots. This is a real explosion of quality: ultra-early, unpretentious, undersized and tasty. Perhaps the name was given to an excellent variety of tomatoes by analogy with the perfection of the style of the legendary disco group. By the way, on sale, in various descriptions or reviews, this plant is also called the Boney M. tomato variant. But you need to know that we are talking about the same variety of tomatoes, which has been included in the State Register for several years.
Description of the variety
Boney MM tomatoes belong to the group of determinant plants. The bush of these tomatoes grows until the inflorescence develops. Usually, the first cluster of fruits forms above the sixth or seventh leaf of the stem. From now on, the plant has a different task - to supply all the elements to the flowers, and later to the ovaries, which turn very quickly into bright red fruits that attract with their fresh indescribable taste. The height of the tomato plant Boni M reaches 40-50 centimeters. Only with an excess weight of the nutrient medium or on fatty natural soil, the bush can stretch up to 60 centimeters. Due to these properties of the plant, it is widely used by gardeners as a sealant between tall varieties of tomatoes.
Tomato bushes Boney MM are standard, erect, with an average number of branches and dark green small leaves on a strong stem of moderate thickness. After the first inflorescence, others can be laid on the plant - they are not separated by leaves. The stalk has articulations.
Fruits are red, round, flat, sometimes slightly ribbed. Inside are two or three small seed chambers. The Boney MM tomato berry weighs 50-70 g. There are reviews with greater variability in the weight of the fruits of this variety: 40-100 g. One tomato plant can give up to two kilograms of a useful vegetable. From the bushes located on 1 sq. m, 5-6.5 kg of tasty fruits are harvested. The juicy berries of this tomato have a pleasant, rich taste, which is distinguished by the expected sourness and sweetness of the first vegetables.
Due to the dense, fleshy pulp and elastic skin, the fruits remain torn off for some time, and they tolerate transportation normally.
Characteristics
The Boni M tomato variety has become popular for a number of distinctive features. Their characteristics are only positive.
- Very early ripening dates: fruiting occurs in 80-85 days from germination. This allows the plant to avoid infection with late blight, and makes it easier for the gardener to care;
- Ripeness comes together most fruits on the hand. In almost two weeks, a bush of tomatoes of this variety gives up its entire harvest, which allows you to further use the garden bed for other crops;
- Low bushes allow the gardener to kind of relax with this variety: the plant does not need to be pinned or tied up... Although, with proper care, the tomato crop makes it necessary to make a support for an overloaded bush of a low plant;
-
Boney M tomatoes were recommended by the authors of the variety as a plant for open ground, but they grow well both in greenhouse beds and in ordinary film shelters... In the northern regions, the variety has become one of the favorite vegetable plants;
- The unsurpassed feature of these tomatoes is unpretentiousness and resistance to pathogens of fungal infections... Even in rather poor soil and in cool, rainy weather, the yield of their bushes does not fail;
- Transportability and keeping quality allow you to grow Boni M tomatoes as a commercial grade.
Growing stages
The timing of sowing seeds of tomato Boney M for seedlings depends on when the gardener planned to harvest useful fruits.
- If you dream of eating your own grown tomato berries in June, from the beginning of March, seeds are sown in seedling boxes;
- Residents of the northern regions start growing tomato seedlings of this variety at the end of March. Then the time for planting young plants under film shelters will have to be in a warm season without frost;
- In the middle climatic zone, it is recommended to build film shelters over the sowing site of these tomatoes. They sow earlier, in the third decade of April and the first - May, when the soil has already warmed up. When the third leaf appears on the plants, the films can be removed, but with the ability to re-install them in the event of a probable morning low temperature;
- In warmer areas, following the feedback of those gardeners who planted the Boni MM tomato, they simply sow seeds on the beds in mid-May, when the threat of frost recedes. In early August, early ripening plants are already bearing fruit in the open field.
Transplanting
When the sprouts reach the age of 30-35 days, they begin to accustom them to fresh air by placing the dived tomatoes in the shade. If the seedlings are already hardened, they are transferred to open ground.
- Tomato Boni M is planted in rows with a distance of 50 cm between the holes. 30-40 cm are left in the aisles. 7-9 bushes of this variety grow on one square meter;
- The site for tomatoes is chosen sunny and open to air currents. The homeland of tomatoes is South America, so the plant is ready to stay in the sun all day;
- The soil for tomatoes cannot be fertilized with fresh organic matter, it is better to apply it on the eve of the season, back in the fall. If such dressings were not carried out, the soil is filled with humus.
Plant care
Tomatoes planted in a permanent place with an open root system need to be watered frequently for the first week to keep the soil moist. Plants will take root faster. Potted seedlings also require high soil moisture - containers will decompose faster, and the roots will go beyond them in search of new nutrients.
Fifteen days later, the matured tomatoes are provided with feeding with special complex fertilizers along with watering, which is now carried out less often - twice a week. As soon as the soil dries up, it is gently loosened. In dry weather, planting should be mulched.
Tomato bushes Boney MM do not stepchild, but you need to pick off the leaves that grow from below. There are recommendations for this process: only one leaf of the plant is removed every day to avoid stress during mass tearing. The fruits will thus receive more nutrition. For photosynthesis, the top leaves are enough for the plant.
Gardener Secrets
Experienced gardeners have their own interesting tricks to increase the yield of tomatoes and grow them successfully:
- After plentiful first watering, the plants are slightly huddled. This technique allows the seedling to form new roots, which helps to strengthen the young bush;
- Although the bush of this variety is strong, nevertheless, during the ripening period, if the brushes are abundant in fruits, you need to cover the soil well with a layer of mulch. Two goals are pursued here: the bed does not dry out; fruits, even drooping down with an overloaded brush, will remain clean;
- A super-early harvest is obtained, almost 5-6 days earlier than the agreed date, by splitting the stem of the plant. With a sharp knife, the bottom of the stem is cut lengthwise, then a stick is inserted into the hole, which prevents the stem from growing together.Stress forces the bush to throw all its strength into the formation of fruits.
- They also regulate the size of the fruits, cutting off the smallest ones that are at the end of the brush. The classic technique recommends picking the brown berries of tomatoes from the first ripening brush, so that the fruits on the next are larger and more even.
Having once planted powerful and compact bushes of tomatoes of this variety, gardeners usually do not part with them.
